Donk Defeat
Seems the Ketchup guy and the Mass Drunk (pun intended) couldn't muster enough votes to filibuster the confirmation of Judge Alito. With only 97 Senators voting, the filibuster was shut down 72 to 25. Note to the constituents of the three not voting, why are they not able to make it to a vote on the floor?
MSNBC has the details.
MSNBC has the details.
Muslims/Civil Liberties an oxymoron?
Take a second and go read this, don't worry, I will still be here when you get back:
Stop The ACLU » Blog Archive » CAIR Seeks Apology For Radio Host Exercizing Free Speech
Why do these groups think that everybodys has to either agree with them or appologize to them? Let me put it to you this way, if you are not fighting to stop the forces at work trying to take your rights away, you are not worthy to call yourself an American. If you are aligned with a group that seeks to destroy what freedoms we have and demand appologies for what someone else says or does that might offend you, then you can pack your bags and go someplace else. For 20 years I served in the Forces that defend your right to live as you wish, but YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMAND AN APPOLOGY FROM ME IF I HAVE OFFENDED YOU. You see, I don't care. If you are offended by me, then go somewhere else. If you offend me, SO WHAT! I don't have to listen to you and I will not.
CAIR, you can add me to your list. I support Bill Handel. Oh, and somebody tell the ACLU that there services are no longer needed.

What a weekend
Wow, I am so glad we got that one in the bag. SIT had a three day swim meet here this weekend and he did real good. He scored 75 points to win for his age group. His closest competitor came in with 34 points. I've been telling him that this meet was his to lose for a year. He also broke at least 5 meet records. Next weekend, we travel to his favorite pool for a meet. He should do well there.

Nuclear Option Time
CNN.com - Sen. Kerry calls for filibuster of Alito - Jan 26, 2006
Well, I guess it is time for the Nuclear Option. Senator, the only reason that you want to filibuster this nominee is because you are suffering from BDS. It is time you left the Senate and take the murdering drunk with you.
Republicans, it is time to arm the nukes and shut this filibuster down. Judge Alito deserves that up or down vote, so make it happen.

Civics 101
Ok class, let me ask you this question: Who is the United States Senate supposed to represent? Nope, wrong. The Senate does not represent the people. The Senators from each state are to represent the STATE that sent them. At least until the 17th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified. While it changed how Senators were elected, it did not change whose interests they represented. Since the House of Representative is based on population, they represent the people, but the Senate is comprised of two Senators for each state, regardless of population.
Now, Sarge, why this topic?
Well, while I was taking CINCHOUSE to one of the local markets, I heard on the radio, that the Utah Legilature has introduced a bill to change how Senators are selected in that state. Amazingly, they are wanting to go back to the way it was done before the 17th Amendment. The DJ was grousing about the people not having a voice in their representation. Well, they still have their reps in the House and that is their representation. Maybe it is time to repeal the 17th Amendment and acknowledge that the framers knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they wrote Aritlce 1, Section 3 of the Constitution of the United States.

1st Amendment Rights
Where in the world do people get the idea that the 1st Amendment protects their right to be a loud, foul mouthed SOB? I am a moderator at a cadet forum, which shall remain nameless for now, and I was accused of violating an individuals 1st Amendment rights. As I pointed out to the lad, the 1st Amendment only applies to the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and not to a private entity. As the site is owned by another person, he sets the rules, I just enforce them. I wish that people would actually read what the Constitution actully says before they go shooting off at the mouth. As wise man once said, "It is better to keep quite and appear the fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." You know, I can live with that, can you?

Wireless (pt 3)
Well, Sarge-In-Training and I got the wirelss set-up, secured and as of now, I am sitting in my recliner watching the big TV. Now, must convince CINCHOUSE that Sarge needs a new notebook that is worthy of his stature in the grand sceme of things. It is kind of cool this PM, so a test drive from the screen room will have to wait for a few days.
Nate, you were so right, this is nice. Still no cats.

Wireless (pt 2)
Well, took Nate's advice. Went and got a wireless router today. Because of the size and construction of the command post, will need to keep existing network and add the wireless capability to it. I think that I can get this done, even with Sarge-In-Training's help. I will definetely have to give it a whirl when it is done. More to come.
Hey, Nate, have you ever tried herding cats? We have a saying on deck at swim meets that getting the 8 and under swimmers where they need to be at the right time is a lot like herding cats, at the middle school meets, we add the caveat that the cats are wet. Just curious.
Somebody leave a comment and let Sarge know how the reception is out there.

Marine Gunnery Sgt's
There is a breed of man, the ones that I have known have been the quiet type. A respected expert in his field.
By now, everyone has heard of Marine Gunnery Sergeant Burghardt. Here is a man that in spite of his injuries, got up and walked away from the scene. His reaction, while not typical in polite company, shows the resolve of a man who will not be beat. The picture of him "keeping up international relations" will have men fighting to buy him a beer anywhere he goes.
Gunny, this one's for you

Wireless
Nate from Wasted Electrons tells me I need to go wireless at the Command Post. That is next on my home network list of things to do. CINCHOUSE has even mentioned it. Her computer was recently moved and I had to run a cable for it. Luckily for me, we already had a hole in the wall just the right size that I was able to feed the CAT5 through. With Sarge-In-Training becoming more computer savy and owning a new notebook, and Sarge considering getting a new one, maybe it is time. Now, I just need to find a wireless system that will cover the 3000 sq/ft of the Command Post so that I can sit in the Florida room and surf. Sorry Nate, no cats allowed.

Catch up
Wow, what a weekend! Intended to make a couple of posts, but Sarge picked up an ear infection and so, spent off time in a horizontal position. And, since the command post is not set-up for wireless and is not completely wired, nothing got done here.
Had two swim meets for Sarge-in-Training. One for the middle school, which we won, and one USA Swimming. Sarge-in-Training did well in both. He made a cut for the short course championship meet in March and only needs one more for CINCHOUSE and I to take him.
I see that the Hildebeast is running her yap again, proving once again that BDS does not effect just the male of the species. In the words of Henry II "Will no one rid me of this troublesome Senator?" Paraphrased of course. The same could be said of E. Kennedy, Durbin, Kerry, and Reid. Not necessarily in that order.

Dear United States Senate Judiciary Committee
As you begin the confirmation hearings for SCOTUS Nominee Alito today, I would ask that y0u keep these things in mind:
1. The abortion questions has been resolved, 33 years ago. While an abomination before man and God, it is unfortunately the law of the land. There is no sense asking Nominee Alito what his stand on this issue is.
2. He is the President's nominee and deserves an up or down vote by the FULL Senate. Regardless of how you (esp the Democrats) feel about President Bush.
Oh, and for the Committee of the Whole, you Republicans have a MAJORITY in the Senate. Act like it.
Respectfully (yeah, right),
Sarge

More about Sarge
Since Nate over at Wasted Electrons added me to his blogroll, I have added him to my list of daily reads. I also thought it might not be a bad idea to tell you all a little bit more about me. I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and am a 1984 graduate of Ritenour High School (Go Huskies!). After high school, I attended the University of Missouri, St Louis for a semester and discovered that college was not for me, so I went and talked to the recruiters. The Air Force seemed the best fit for me, so on March 29, 1985, the Air Force and I started our relationship. The Air Force, in its infinite wisdom, decided to train me in satellite communications. Over the years, the Air Force merged us with wideband communications and telemetry systems.
In 2005, with a solid 20 years under my belt, I hung up my uniform and moved into the next chapter of my life. My family and I have settled, for the time being, in the Fort Walton Beach, FL area.
I am married and have one son. I refer to my better half as CINCHOUSE (Commander-In-Chief, House, for the uninitiated) and my son is SIT for Sarge-in-Training. SIT is a competitive swimmer with one of the local swim teams here and I am an official with USA Swimming.
Leave me a note to let me know that you came by.

What in the . . .
PaulVA over at the Daily Kos is saying that this disaster at the mine is the Republican's fault (another symptom of BDS). here he is saying that in 1994 the Republicans changed the way that OSHA operates. Well, I have a couple of questions:
1. Who was in the Whitehouse at that time?
2. What department does OSHA fall under?
3. Who would have appointed the head of that department?
For those that may have forgotten, the answers are:
1. William Jefferson Clinton a DEMOCRAT
2. U.S. Department of Labor
3. See the answer to #1.
Now, where does Paul think this is going?

W. VA Miners
Don't know if you have heard yet or not, only one survivor of the mine explosion has been brought out. All the others perished. Let us keep the one who survived and his family and the families of the rest in our prayers. Pray also for this community as they struggle to bring some semblance of normality back.

Happy New Year
I know, it is already the third, but I want to wish the few that do read this a Happy New Year and may you prosper this year.
Does anybody out there have a Linux driver for an HP LaserJet 1000? I am setting up a Linux machine at the command post to entertain myself with (learn the operating system) and one of my printers is attached to this box. I don't want to move the printer if I don't have to. According to HP's site, they have not nor do they plan to provide a driver for this printer. If you know of a suitable driver, please leave a comment and let me know.
